Bad Luck, Bad Choices, and Bad Habits

Wednesday, February 28th, 2007

We were at some friend’s house the other day and the wife mentioned some other acquaintances of ours.

“It sure is too bad, all the bad luck they have,” she said.

My first thought was, “Bad habits, not bad luck.”

My second thought was, “Or is it bad choices?”

You see, there is a difference. What we many times call bad luck is merely bad choices.

Let me explain:

If you work hard, buy a new car, keep it up with regular maintenance and blow a tire driving down the road, that is bad luck.

However, if you drive on your tires until they are almost bald and drive at speeds higher than they are recommended for, and keep them at the wrong inflation level, and then the tire blows, that is not bad luck but bad choices. The tire blew because you chose not to buy new ones. The tire blew because you chose not to take the time to check your tire inflation level the last time you filled up the tank.

It is bad luck to leave your house on vacation and while you are away the gas line breaks and the house blows up.

It is bad habits to not tend to taking care of your house, replacing the roof, painting, etc until it is a junk pile.
It is bad luck to be let go from a company that goes into meltdown because the CEO acted unethically and the stock tanks, forcing layoffs.

It is both bad choices and bad habits to be late to work everyday, display shoddy workmanship and have a bad attitude to the point that the boss fires you.

If you choose to frequent shady parts of town or risky establishments, and you get mugged, is that bad luck or bad choices?

You get the point.

How often do we call something bad luck when it is really the result of bad habits or bad choices?

This really boils down to a matter of ownership of our lives and actions. Do we take full responsibility for our lives or not?
I know of a gentleman who was recently passed over for a job. It would have paid him $13,000 for a week’s worth of work. The person who passed him over told me why. Knowing this gentleman, I said, “It is too bad, because with a few good choices, that guy could be living in a nice house, driving nice cars, and having very few financial problems.”

What about you? Do you experience bad luck? Or bad habits? Or bad choices?

The next time you hear someone say, “He’s down on his luck,” perhaps you ought to ask, “Or is he down on his choices?”
I have found that those who have good habits and make good choices tend to experience the best luck!

So, if you want a little good luck, make some good choices and develop some good habits.

“Luck is a dividend of sweat. The more you sweat, the luckier you get.” Ray Kroc

A Gift From Beau

Wednesday, February 28th, 2007

I receive many comments and emails during the course of each month, most all of them are very encouraging and written from the heart. They acknowledge the service I am providing to those that are ready to move further along their chosen path. I receive every once and awhile a special email or comment that reflects what I am attempting to do. I wanted to share this one with you; it came from my guest book this week.

Thank you– you helped me on this day-was feeling sorry for myself because I didn’t think I was special to anyone for any reason- which saddened me very much. I realize now that I am special-I need not prove it.
Beau

I cherish these kinds of comments because they are totally reflective of what my site is about. It is my desire to empower that one person that will change our lives for the better. It is my purpose to bring your power to the surface. To bring awareness into your life so that you may use that power in creating all that you desire into your life.

I read this comment several times before I realized the special gift that this person had brought to me. This comment was written by Beau expressing her new awareness. What I received from it was a message written by Roy to Roy that says I am special and I do not need to prove it.

I am so grateful to Beau, and acknowledge her wonderful gift to me.

I write things, often believing that I am sending them outward to you. They are repeatedly reflected back where they are needed the most.

We are all one and intimately connected at some level of consciousness. Beau is me in another form in time and place reminding me that I am special and I don’t need to prove it. Beau has empowered me to believe that. She is a special angel that I brought into my awareness when I needed it the most.

The wonder of empowerment and awareness is brought into your life everyday when you leave the door open for it. What you seek to learn you bring into your life by teaching it. I sent this message out and Beau sent it back, my door was open and I was reminded.

I helped Beau, but I really helped myself. The power that you hold within you is awesome. There is absolutely nothing that you cannot do if you open your mind to the probabilities of doing it. This is not just a line of BS; it is observable as I have demonstrated. It should always be observable, or what is the use of it. Do not ever blind yourself to what is in front of you, and never look for it. It will reveal itself at the correct time and place.

Notice the little things first before the big ones make themselves known to you. Change is in your life every day and is observable. Stand back from yourself and simply notice it, but do not force it.

Holistic awareness acknowledges any change in any one part of the body will reflect on the whole body. A cause put forth by myself affected the whole body and was brought back to me, cause and effect or Karma was observable. There are no strangers, just an infinite number of individuals existing in the one body that is connected to all. I can not snub my toe without the whole body being affected by it. Beau acknowledged another part of her self and was affected by that awareness. All of us are special as individuals in an ongoing line of communication with each other.

No one is more or less important that the other, in this regard we are perfect in our position along the path as in a water line, where the bucket is passed from one to another. The first bucked is as just as significant as the last and everyone in between.

Your survival is guaranteed for as long as you choose to experience it. When you deny your own uniqueness, you deny all others as well. Acceptance of who you are now, and your right to be who you are, gives passage to your next step in this world and the next.

Know yourself as perfect and you will move towards perfection. You are in control, you are the captain and this is your ship. If you believe that you are not, it is because you have given up your power voluntarily. No one can take from you without your consent at some level of your consciousness.

Beau has claimed her right to be special. There is nothing more she has to do with that awareness consciously. Awareness will bring its own change. She is not the same person she was when she wrote that email and she can never go back. She doesn’t have to prove anything. You can not prove something that you already know yourself to be. Knowing knows and proving is always proving they can never be the same. You can never prove something that you know.

4 Brilliant Tips to Speed Read Faster than Ever

Wednesday, February 28th, 2007

Many people, particularly students, would love to be
able to absorb information faster. But before retaining
information, they have to go through the first stage of
learning, which is reading.

For many individuals who are pressed for time, speed
reading has become a necessity. However, it’s not just
the reading part that is important. Equally essential
is for the reader to fully understand the words coming
out from the book or paper.

Here are some great tips to read and comprehend faster.

1) Relax.

If you’re in the stressed mode, it would be much more
difficult to concentrate; hence, it would just be a lot
harder for the information to sink in.

2) Know what you want.

Focus on the areas that you really need to learn. Some
people read all parts of a book, when all they need to
know is a specific chapter.

Know your priority. If you need to find out about a
certain subject, go to the Table of Contents and search
for the heading that best suits your need. If you need
to learn more, then adjust accordingly. The important
thing is to weed out the stuffs that you don’t
currently need.

3) Get rid of the structure words.

Did you know that around 60% of the words we read are
structure words? Examples are the words “the, or, and.”
They are essential in the structure of the sentences;
but when you ignore them, they basically mean the same
thing. They only serve to beautify, yet you can
understand what you are reading even without them. Try
not to focus too much attention on structure words.

4) Practice, practice, practice.

When I started exercising with weights, I can only lift
the lighter ones. As the time goes by, I slowly add more
and more weights as my body tends to adjust and become
more comfortable carrying heavier ones.

The same concept goes for speed reading. Set a goal.
Figure out how fast you can read, then create a plan to
increase your ability.

If you can read 200 words per minute, set a goal to
read 250 words a minute. After accomplishing this feat,
set a goal to read 300 words per minute.

This takes time and practice, but the effort is all
worth it. If this is your first time to set such a
goal, read first those materials you are familiar with.

Carry on with more difficult ones as you progress. This
way, you’re not overwhelming yourself with understanding
different new words and at the same time developing your
speed reading skills.

Aspire to Be

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

Many individuals believe that they have to “live up” to another family member or idol. Some are even envious of famous icons and want to look, act, think and be like the stars of the big screen. People become so obcessed that, in their quest of “perfection,” they lose sight of who they are themselves. One of the most peculiar idiologies of people is that they honestly believe that they can literally “transform” themselves into other persons.

In the eternal journey of life, human beings are almost comical in a bizarre kind of way. Television ads tell us that we “need” certain products and services to “make” us feel better, look better and think better. Other sociological commercialization is exhibited by actors and actresses — as they all seemingly have an incredible physical appearance, coupled with extreme self-confidence. But here’s the bottom line: not all people are perfect. Not all actors and actresses have super bodies. Not all individuals have perfect complexions, and gorgeous hair. So what do we do? We improvise — and then we compromise.

We improvise with products, services, clothing, makeup, and the like. We compromise ourselves, though, because we are no longer “true” to our natural form. Persons who feel they “must” actively change themselves to appear like others, is moreover a matter of self-esteem — or lack thereof.

The most proficient and successful goal of life is to “Aspire to be YOU.” Take a long look at yourself in the mirror. Ask yourself the following questions:

  • What do YOU want to do?
  • How do YOU wish others to see you?
  • What defines me?
  • Am I confident?
  • Am I happy?
  • What can I do to be happier?
  • What are my goals?
  • What are my dreams and aspirations?
  • Do I ‘need’ to transform myself? And most importantly,
  • Do I know where I’m going in life?

There are no paradoxes in aspiring to be you. When you aspire to be you, one doesn’t need to comparison shop for personalities. One merely has to look within to find his/her unique meaning in life and how s/he emits himself or herself in the community. When you aspire to be you, you don’t have to be superman or woman. You only have to be you — in mind, body and spirit. Nature’s gift to mankind, is not how you define yourself by becoming someone else — rather, how you present yourself to you. Aspire to be yourself, and the rest of life’s voyage will be smooth sailing.

The Final Frontier

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

When all that you have done has not brought you what you truly desire, isn’t it about time to move out of the box ask questions and make changes?

What would you think if you went to your doctor and he hit you over the head with a rubber hammer to knock you out before some minor surgery? Does the horse and buggy now serve you to take you to work each day? Would you settle for going down town to the telegraph office, to have a message sent to your aunt across the country? Could you possibly get along without your cel phone, fax machine or microwave oven?

The answer is “of course not.” We have evolved and our world is moving much too quickly to rely on out dated technology to serve us. At some point in our lives we look at our situation and re-evaluate what works and does not work for us. Our old Commodore 286 computer could not handle today’s demands for speed and reliability and we would consider it insanity for any company to rely on this technology.

Our truth is as fluid as the water that covers the planet, and it changes everyday as we re-evaluate and recreate the circumstances of our lives. Mankind has learned to adapt to the changing circumstances and how react to them. Most of the time we can plainly see what works and does not work in our lives, and yet there is one area where we are plainly stuck in the box, where we consciously ignore the obvious and put blind faith into something that has never worked. We are so highly motivated by fear in this area of consciousness that we most often turn our thoughts away from it, and hope that it will all work itself out in the end.

From the time we were born we assumed our parent’s morality, ethics and believe systems. After years of trying to get our own way, we gave into what we thought our parents, our siblings, our community and religion wanted from us, or we were in conflict with them.

Many of us who were brought up in the churches caved into their doctrine. We once again ignored the obvious, and the early training at home left us with little resistance for the religious leaders that would teach us to follow blindly, with little to show but promises of something greater to come in the future, and eternal damnation if we did not comply.

We did not understand why the promise of peace on earth and abundance was not happening in our lives, why praying didn’t get us what we wanted and were we wanted to go. Yet we could not reject or question the doctrine and even in as much as we intuitively knew that we were been giving a line of BS, we wouldn’t dare call it that, just in case there might really be some truth to it, in case we would be punished. So great is the fear that we have blinded ourselves to the obvious fact that what they taught us did not bring what they promised.

We have grown up, we have evolved and we have moved on. However we still carry the burden of outdated, archaic belief systems that are holding us back. Old values are just that, they are old and do not work in a modern society. God (creator) is life; life and God are two words that are interchangeable. Life moves on and is constantly changing. Now substitute the word life for God in the last sentence and see how that works. Everything in the system is moving except for our thoughts about what we were taught to believe. We know it doesn’t work, still we push those thoughts away less we be damned for even thinking them. Blind faith has never worked; it just allows you to give into the status quo and move around the questions gracefully and remain relatively safe.

In order for spirituality to work in this century and the next, we must change our thoughts about what we have been taught in the past. We must question what we observe that does not work and make modifications and changes that better reflect our new awareness and enlightenment. Life (God) changes and so must we. We must embrace a new concept of whom and what the creator is. We must give way to the fact that God is not a vengeful, warring, angry, vindictive God. We must give way to the fact that everything is God, life is God, we are God manifesting in physical form and we are all connected. We must know that God does not punish and hand out everlasting damnation; it is OK to question and change our belief systems. We will not go to hell or heaven; those are only manmade concepts of the afterlife. We do not have to be parented and we are absolutely free to explore our own individual spirituality without retribution from God.

That which created us is that which we know as unconditional love, freedom and life, always changing always moving towards perfection. That which has served us before no longer does (if it ever did?), and by the very nature of what God is, we must change our image of him/her. God is not an anthropomorphic being with physical emotion, and as we are created in his/her image so God must change as we change our image because we are the same.

Man has evolved, has changed but he has left his spiritual awareness at the back door. In order to move to the next step, humanity must once again know itself as spiritual. You can not find God because you already are God. God is the sum of all of its parts. It is life, freedom, choice and unconditional love, it is who we are, and it is our inheritance, God is all around you, everything is God including you. It is the life force that creates all that is. Life creates only life, it does not judge and it has no preferences or needs; its only will is to create more life. Mankind created itself in this form because this is how it saw itself in the physical world.

There are no rules except for natural laws that govern physicality. All physical laws are man’s laws. Man cannot project his laws onto God or into the afterlife; they are valid only in the physical world. God’s laws or commandments are interpretations of what man thought God wanted and there is nothing that God wants as God is all that is and therefore has no wants. God’s laws were a convenience for humanity because it took away the responsibility for man to govern himself, they do not exist. The real power and responsibility for these laws was always with man.

The final frontier will be to explore that which is already known but has been forgotten, that which is in each and everyone of us individually and together, forever connected, separate but never apart. We cannot move forward until we leave the old image of God behind, we cannot evolve spiritually until we know that that the anthropomorphic God no longer exists. The next step is not into outer space but inner space. The final frontier does not take a space ship to get there, it is all about communication and making time to travel inward and it is also the recognition that we are all connected, there is only one God, one life force and we are that which we call God. Man is here to serve no God, but to service life itself.

There is Light at the End of the Tunnel - Just Get Out of Your Way !

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

There is light at the end of the tunnel, but some days it seems like it is miles away. You have done
everything you can think of to do, physically or mentally and don’t even get me started on the list of emotions
that have been involved in the whole process of creating the dream that you have held within your mind’s eye.
The delays keep coming. You stop and tell yourself several times a day.. there is light at the end of the
tunnel… don’t give up now. The list keeps coming and we have heard them all… “Plant a seed and watch it grow”
and “Rome wasn’t built in a day” and still you wait.

This is the time that I just lay it down and ask God to take over. He was always in charge anyway and it was only
my ego thinking it was in charge. I then ask the Angels to shore me up with strength and faith again.
I am only human and I may have to do this several times a day until I feel balanced and centered once again,
but if I do this and quit fighting the divine flow and timing of things everything starts falling into place again.
People brought to me out of the blue that just happen to be interested or already involved in something
pertaining to my dream that will benefit me tremendously in getting a little further down the tunnel or a
thought pops into my head that I had not considered before. Turning it over completely unlocks the gears.

When you really stop and think of all that it takes to set things up in divine timing and quit looking only from
our perspective it really is quite like a miracle. Everything has to be synchronized to line up exactly at the
correct moment. One second or minute off and you have missed the connection and left standing on the
tracks again with no place to go.

So the next time this happens to you take a few minutes and take a deep breath and turn it over to God.
Getting our ego out of the way can open doors and create many opportunities. The end result more grand
than we could ever have imagined.

Celebrating ‘Little Clothes’ After Gastric Bypass Weight Loss

Monday, February 26th, 2007

Have you found yourself asking “whose clothes are these?” when you are taking care of your very own “little clothes” since losing weight with gastric bypass? Men and women alike, after experiencing massive weight loss, enjoy a wonderment, a shock and awe, as they see their new clothes which appear to be so small. Can this really fit me? we ask. Or sometimes we simply state, “Oh, this will never fit me.” We still see ourselves as large and morbidly obese.

I was telling some friends about a dress I will be wearing to a party, “My dress is so sexy - I am looking at it thinking can I really wear that thing? (as images of the Little Fat Girl wedged into a sausage casing fill my demented head). The dress is knee-length navy blue knit, one shoulder and very fitted - think Marilyn Monroe! I’m wearing red strappy 4″ sandals and a red beaded handbag! I’m dying here! Can this be ME?????” I was giddy with excitement.

It’s been over five years since I’ve lost my weight, yet I still cannot believe this dress will fit me. In many ways I hope the excitement and thrill never fades. On the other hand wouldn’t it be nice to accept myself as I am now and quit picturing the Little Fat Girl when I see myself?

My friend and our frequent contributor Kim, wrote to me, “It is funny how we can’t imagine ourselves in our clothing. I had shrunk a white T-shirt (it was a dry flat number and I accidentally tossed it in the dryer). It came out looking like a shirt for a 9-year-old. I figured that I’d put it on and wear a blouse over the top…sort of wear it like a cami. Was I surprised when it was actually big on me. It just floors me and I know that it will be a long time for me to finally realize what size I actually am.”

Another friend is the mother of a WLS patient. After hearing about my dress Maxine responded, “I look forward to seeing my daughter in your shoes! And when she goes out for a gala event and pasta alfredo is an entree and she chooses the palate cleanser because she knows how good she looks and feels and what it took for her to become who she is. So much too look forward to Kaye!”

Yes, Maxine. So much to look forward to!

Morals to Live By

Monday, February 26th, 2007

If one has ever had the honor of watching Disney’s “Angels in the Outfield,” starring Danny Glover, one has been truly inspired. The story centers around two, foster children whom are endlessly hoping for a home to call their own. In the film, the older child, Roger pleads with his deadbeat dad to take him back. The father brushes his son off with a taunting response, “….you can live with me when the Angels win the Penant…” Roger, excitedly goes home and prays to God for the baseball team (the Angels) to win the Penant. He and his little foster freind, “JB,” attend an Angels’ game where suddenly, Roger begins seeing real angels in the outfield. Remarkably, the coach, “George Knox,” played by Danny Glover grows close to the two foster children as Roger helps him develop his team (by the angels he sees on the playing diamond). As time progresses and the “Angels” begin a winning streak toward the Penant, Roger’s dad relinquishes total custody of his son to the state and leaves the child feeling more abandoned than ever.

However, Coach Knox’s hardened personality is softened by the two boys. Eventually, he adopts the two comrades and the Angels do win the Penant.

The story, although fictional, has an important moral for all to follow. Sometimes, even our most profound hopes, desires and wishes do not always come to us the way we would expect them to. We pray, meditate and dream about anticipated outcomes — and when we don’t get the results we want, we automatically assume that all hope is lost or abandoned. In all actuality, sometimes, the things we want the most in life don’t always happen in the manner which we wish them to occur. But somehow, a Higher Force always throws us a life preserve and pulls us from our drowning pools. You see, life isn’t always about getting what we desire…it is about desiring what we do get, and accepting outcomes that are sometimes — meant to be. Words to ponder.

Until then, take a break from life’s parols and watch “Angels in the Outfield.” It will give you a whole new perspective on life.

We Become What We Think About

Monday, February 26th, 2007

“A man’s life is what his thoughts make of it.”

- Marcus Aurelius –

Roman Emperor

Ralph Waldo Emerson once stated, “a man is what he thinks about all day long.” He understood an important principle that is at the heart of sales success, or any other success for that matter. If you believe you are a successful salesperson and you think about yourself succeeding day in and day out, you will succeed. Unfortunately, the reverse is equally true.

Norman Vincent Peale also wrote about this concept:

This is one of the greatest laws in the universe. Fervently do I wish I had discovered it as a very young man. It dawned on me much later in life and I found it one of the greatest, if not my greatest, discovery outside of my relationship to God.

The law of prosperity and success to which he was referring says that if you think in positive terms, you’ll achieve positive results but negative thinking produces only negative results.

Psychologists and motivational speakers, like Earl Nightingale, suggest the mind is very much like the land on a farm. The land gives the farmer a choice. He can plant whatever he chooses since the land doesn’t care. It is up to the farmer to make the decision. Our subconscious mind, like the farmer’s land, doesn’t care what we plant either. It will return whatever we plant. Once the seed is planted and watered, it will grow. Seeds of success or seeds of failure are available for planting. We can plant seeds of success and harvest happiness or seeds of failure and harvest disillusionment and discontent. What are you planting?

Time Management Is Key

Sunday, February 25th, 2007

Having a home based business can be overwhelming. When you work at home, there is a lot to do for both your home based business, your home and you family. The key to making a home based business work is managing your time wisely. When you work at home, other tasks can interfere with what you want to accomplish, so it is important to keep in mind the goals of your home based business.

Make lists each day of what you want to accomplish with your home based business, as well as all the things you need to do that day like taking you child to piano lessons and cutting the grass. Use those lists to keep yourself focused on the daily tasks of your home based business.

Prioritize the tasks of your work at home business. It is not necessary to spend hours on the little tasks of your home based business. Decide what are the most important things to be done with your home based business and do them. Allot smaller amounts to time to the less important tasks.

Keep good records for your home based business. Not only will this help you stay out of trouble at tax time, but it will show your customers that you are organized and can run a home based business efficiently. Just because you work at home does not mean that you can be sloppy. Find ways to organize yourself, your life and your home based business that work for you.

Set regular work at home hours for yourself. A home based business does not run itself and you need to put in the time and effort to make it successful. This does not mean you can’t adjust your schedule, it just means that you generally have to have time set aside to work at home without interruptions.

Take a break every once in while. Sitting in front of your computer running your home based business and never taking time out to enjoy yourself defeats the whole purpose of having a work at home job in the first place. Most of us decided to work at home so that we could have more time with our families. So take that treasured time with your family. Your home based business will run better if your frame of mind is positive.
