Mind Power

When most people refer to mind power they could be referring to the term in any one of several different contexts.

The first context is in terms of mental discipline. In this sense mind power refers to the actual stamina of the mind when it comes to such abilities as concentration, memory, comprehension, information and the ability to learn. The longer you can stay up nights studying, spend hours writing or solving problems, or remember facts and trivia the more mind power that you are considered to have. Someone who is good at Sudoko could be considered to have a lot of mind power.

Yet another context that mind power is describe in has a bit of a neruolinguistic bent. In this sense mind power refers to an individual’s ability to alter his or her own behavior to produce a predictable set of reactions from another individual. It is about the power of persuasion and more about satisfying the ego than anything else.

There are all kinds of NLP programs, books and courses available both online and offline that will teach you how to increase your mind power. The problem with this type of mind power is that it doesn’t often allow others the option of having free will. Many people who practice mind power with the intent of manipulating other people are often bitterly disappointed when it does not work because to think that one’s mind somehow dominates another is a delusion.

Another context that the term mind power is often used in is in context of witchcraft. This is applicable to books about the manifestation of objects using occult or mystical means. Using chants, spells and positive affirmations are usually part of demonstrating this kind of mind power.

Once again this type of mental power is associated with delusions that are more appropriate to the Dark Ages then to these modern times. Still thanks to books like the Secret, ritualistic and repetitive distortions of thought are being used to try and alter events that might occur in the future. The jury is still out on whether this type of mind power is actually real and it has been out since the death of Socrates.

The words mind power can also have a psychic meaning. Sometimes mind power is used to describe someone who can read minds or read the future. As this is not a normal function of the mind, it is seen as a powerful skill.

Mind power is a term that is best left to describe mental proficiency and the powers of an excellent memory rather than to describe attempts to manipulate others through the power of thought or metaphysical means. In fact, if you want to subscribe to Buddhism, one of the surest ways to weaken your mind power would be too make it busy with affirmations, wishes and thoughts of controlling others with your thoughts. It is a still mind that is led to clarity as the result of a profound and consistent meditation that is more likely to be a powerful and focused one.

The Secret – The Law of Attraction

The Secret – The Law of Attraction

The thing about the book, the Secret is that it is not secret at all. The principles in it have been extolled for centuries by a number of very spiritual individuals who have not been credited by the authors of the Secret. In fact it is insulting to most people’s intelligence to have the wisdom of the ages repackaged and remarketed to them on Oprah.

These authors who were not credited in the Secret include individuals such as Dion Fortune (the mother of white light), Alistair Crowley, Florence Scovell Schinn (who pioneered all positive affirmation books) and countless others have written about these principles in books that have been widely published and read by millions of people.

The authors of the Secret also blatantly ignored the masterworks of philosophy, the works of Shakespeare and even the Bible itself, which discusses the Law of Attraction with the phrase “the word is flesh.” There was also no credit given to any of the authors such as Norman Hallet who wrote “Think and Grow Rich” or Norman Vincent Peale who originally wrote “The Power of Positive Thinking.” Even Ayn Rand who first wrote “The Virtues of Selfishness” was totally ignored.

To even define The Secret as a book about the Law of Attraction is an insult to the many authors who are true masters of writing about the subject. A good example is Samantha Stevens, a metaphysical author from Canada who was writing about the same subject in 2001 in four books that predate The Secret and that were widely sold on Amazon and Walmart. Another author that is badly ripped off in The Secret is Wayne Dwyer who wrote several ground breaking books about

The Law of Attraction coined phrases like “Attitude of Gratitude” long before this greedy collection of marketing experts decided to pinch it and include it in their marketing scam. It seems that part of the law of attraction might be to appropriate the ideas of others and make them your own. In fact this law of taking credit for other people’s ideas is actually one of Robert Green’s ugly and political “48 Laws of Power” and not really qualified to be one of the laws of attraction.

One thing that is very flawed about The Secret is that it does not have the inherent wisdom in it to take notions of success away from the realm of money and into the realm of happiness and spiritual achievement.

The book does not really have anything to do with the Law of Attraction and is more about the Law of Greed. What it really does is set up unrealistic expectations of oneself and others. Failures no longer become a matter of rational cause and effect. Now when a failure occurs in someone’s life it is because the person is guilty of not being able to practice the “Law of Attraction.”

This type of superstitious and metaphysical belief about manifestation is a delusion that belongs in the Dark Ages and is inappropriate and also inhumane to adopt in the twenty first century. Surely we are in a position in this modern age to provide people with real solutions and not the false hopes as exemplified by the idea that our thoughts can manifest us things like new bikes, cash and jewelry. It’s psychologically and spiritually bereft and much too primitive for this society.

Stop Negative Thinking

“What the mind of man can conceive and believe, It can achieve.”

This is a quote by Napoleon Hill, author of “Think and Grow Rich” one of the great classics of the 20th century.

What does this quote actually allude to though?

Wise men, prophets and great teachers have been saying it for centuries and more and more people to day are beginning to realize that what you hold in your mind most is what you become.

Think about it! Do you wonder why crappy things keep happening in your life? Are you one of those people who are always thinking how bad life has treated you?

Maybe the bad things are happening in your life because that is what you hold most in your mind. You are waiting for the next bad thing to come along and so it inevitably does come to pass.

You need to learn to let go of this negativity because it is basically shaping your life. You ARE what you think. In fact, if you are thinking negatively, you are affecting everyone around you without even saying a word.

Do you idetify this in your life? Do you ever walk into a room and you could cut the atmosphere with a knife. What you feel is the negative energy.

ACCEPTING THE ONE THING THAT IS CONSTANT
Cure your fears of change
Copyright © 2005 Conceive and Believe

Time and time again, people have always said that the only thing constant in this world is change. But the problem is, most of us are afraid of changes in our lives. Perhaps it’s because we have come to treat our status quo as a comfort zone of sorts, that any experience outside of it is taken with much apprehension.

Some changes work for our benefit. Some work to our disadvantage. But it is important to remember that changes, whether good or bad, will always impart to us some vital lessons that we could use to better our lives.

There is no doubt that problems affect us, which is actually normal, due to the fact that we have feelings, but, nevertheless, every single hard moment of our lives should make us even stronger. That is why specialists suggest that you should always analyze and meditate on the worse situation you had to deal with, in the course of your life. Try to learn from your mistakes, because they will help you be prepared for the changes or less pleasant situations to come.

There are quite a number of philosophical schools that adhere to the idea of predetermination, that our lives have been preordained from the very beginning. They also think that life, somehow prepares us for certain events to come, so if we focus enough attention on our previous experiences, we will understand many things from the present.

With all that, it is also true that the unexpected can happen anytime. However, you should keep in mind that a change in not always for the worse and consequently, you must never let go of a chance, because you are afraid to take the risk. Remember that, from time to time, something has to happen in order to free you from monotony, so you shouldn’t be surprised if, at a certain moment in time, instead of being afraid of change, you desire it with all your heart.

If you just don’t feel capable of realizing what a certain change in your life, actually means, here’s a list of tips that might help you get mobilized:

Try to think only of the positive impacts that will result after the change. See how important they are and meditate upon how to multiply them, by adding some other good aspects, which need certain assistance.

It is always good to picture somebody else in your situation, as picturing ourselves in a less desirable position, always looks more dramatic than it really is. If you realize that the other person can handle the change, you can be sure you’ll be able to handle it as well.

Imagine the worse situation that can result after the change. Now try to find various solutions to it. Meditate on how much you can loose, if the worst happened, and how important those things are to you. If you find more than one reasonable solution, you are safe – the change can’t be stronger than you are!

Dealing with changes is just a matter of having the proper mindset. Everything, and I do mean everything, can be made to work for our betterment, and this includes changes of whatever varieties they may come.

Achieving Emotional Balance

Sunday, May 15th, 2005

Emotions tend to dominate our actions and reactions, even though we like to claim otherwise. Society often sees emotions as a sign of weakness, so we got used to putting them aside and try to focus on the rational aspects more and more. But no matter how strict and logical you want to be, you will always be a human being, not a robot, and so you will always feel.

Positive emotions are a life long goal for many of us. What is more important, in the end: how much money you made during your life or how many times you laughed? However, people tend to put their positive emotions in the dark shadow of their negative feelings. This is one of the biggest problems we come across during our lives. There is no obvious way to ignore a negative experience and try to replace it with positive ones. It just doesn’t work that way.

As a child, if your goldfish dies, you would be extremely sad. Your parents will certainly buy you another goldfish, but the sorrow still takes a long time to go away. Things get even more serious with adults. A fight with your spouse the night before will affect your entire day. You will go to work angry, tired, with your mind wandering. Then you will go home with an even worse mood. On the way from work towards home you won’t be able to notice the sun shining and you won’t be tempted to stop at the supermarket and buy your favorite ice cream. All these because that one negative thought is contaminating the way you perceive the reality around you.

In this moment you will feel that finding a safe place to relax your mind would do wonders. And that place is relatively easy to find. It can be an actual location or an imaginary place. The best idea is to totally emerge yourself in it. Let’s say you have a problem on your mind and it just won’t go away. Go bowling! You don’t know how to bowl, you say? No problem, go out and try it! Get caught up in the game, think about those funny shoes, choose a favorite ball, invent new strategies to throw and so on. Your mind will suddenly jump from the negative thoughts that dominated your last hours or days and start processing a whole new kind of information.

A safe place can get many forms. It can be a song, a movie, even a person. The main thing is to allow yourself to get completely involved with this new activity. You might still get flashes of the problem every now and then – ignore them and get even more involved in what you are doing.

When the bowling game, the song, the movie or the conversation ends you will have a rather abrupt return to your problems. You will probably feel sad and want to go back to the safe place. Don’t do that. The safe place exists only as a helping hand, not as a solution to your problems. It is there to help you relax your mind, for a few minutes or hours. This is a vital stage in your solution to what is bothering you. You will return from your safe place with an increased energy level. You will feel better about yourself and gain more confidence that any issue can be resolved. This is how a small escape from a harsh reality can increase your fighting energy and allow you to solve even the most difficult problems.

Strategies for Training Your Mind

Thursday, April 28th, 2005

Today’s fast paced existence or life if you could call it that often puts every one of us in difficult situations where fear and anxiety dominate our day. The frequency and complexity of problems that arise and need to be dealt with weakens both our minds and our bodies, making us incapable of finding the right solutions.

There are several ways to improve your power of concentration and to learn how to relax your mind and prepare it for future struggles. Your body responds to what your mind dictates, but most of the times it does this on a subconscious level. If you manage to tap into this vital resource, which is your subconscious mind, you get an extra edge in dealing with all problems that surround you. Fear paralyses us and makes life more difficult than it should be.

Firstly, try to change your daily regime. Not much, just a bit, but be very conscious about the changes. In the evening, try to recall all the events that took place in a day. This has been used by all spiritual people down through the ages and can be looked upon as taking an inventory of your day. Quickly analyze the highlights of the day and check for any gaps in your memory. If you fail to remember details about an issue you want to recall this is a good indication that you momentarily failed to concentrate during that timeframe. In essence you were asleep, unconcious, not in the sense that we normally think of it but because you were not aware of what was going on around you this tells you that you had retreated into some fantasy/daydream or negative patterns of self talk which are very destructive.

It is also a good idea to write down the positive and negative aspects of your day with the view to making improvements. Writing them down alone will make this task a lot easier and will program your subconcious mind to get to work at a deeper level.

You may also try to diversify the way you live. Again, changes don’t have to be drastic. If today is no different than yesterday and the day before you might want to include new elements in your life. You could start practicing a sport or maybe giving a shot to a hobby you never practiced before. Repetitive and dull actions slowly push your mind in a state of semi hibernation, which slows down your responses to the issues around you.

Stimulating your mind by engaging it in a new activity always has good results. You don’t have to play heavy mind involving games (such as chess, for example) to do this. Try the simple things first: take a different route on your way to work, buy another brand of laundry detergent. Try to travel by bus, if you normally use a car and stand up on a chair to have a different perspective of your bedroom.

The mind is so used to the same old routine that we are like walking talking robots. We are essentially programmed to behave in a certain way and even the simplest of activites can be difficult to change. This is where you need to take the first steps.

You can also engage your mind in other interesting activities such as meeting new people or seeing old friends. Give a call to an old high school friend and go out for some coffee or a beer. Your talks will surely trigger a chain of events that you store in your mind but almost never utilize. Still, this would be a good exercise for the mind and, more importantly, a pleasant experience for you.

There are many things you dislike or despise in life. Give them a chance, try to view them from another perspective. If there is a person you hate try to put yourself in his or her shoes for a few minutes. Try to see yourself through the eyes of people around you and objectively observe your actions and beliefs. Try to let a clear mind analyze events that you find annoying and ignore the preconceptions that urge you to judge a person or event in a certain way.

All of the above are just some simple exercises that will help you face your problems better prepared. Do not over do any of them and let them integrate naturally into your way of life. You may soon look in the mirror and see a happier you!
