Attracting Success

Attracting Success

Attracting success is an idea that is a bit of a misnomer. This is because success is a state of mind and not a goal or object that needs to be baited or reeled in with clever techniques. The truly successful person knows who he or she is and does not waste their time trying to attract it. In fact trying to hard to attract success may actually cause you quite a bit of bad luck.

The reason that trying to attract success is not a good practice is because it sends a message to both your subconscious mind and the universe that you lack success in your life at the moment. This creates a spiritual deficit that only brings more misfortune your way. The more you recite mantras, light candles and buy books about attracting success the less successful you are likely to be because all you are expressing to the universe is your lack.

The truly successful individual behaves like they are successful even if they are not. They are not coveting a lot of money nor do they desire to own a lot of stuff. Some of the most successful people in the world owned very few things. This includes some of the most spiritual individuals including Mother Theresa, the Dalai Lama and even the Pope.

Morality tales, both modern and ancient, have shown again and again that all the money in the world cannot make a person happy. Good examples of individuals who suffer from this syndrome are Nicole Richie. Princess Diana would be another great example.

Unfortunately one of the things that most people don’t understand about attracting success, especially material success, is that their acquisition of property, cash and things often means the suffering of someone else. Causing the suffering of someone else is not the definition of success in any religion.

Many internet gurus and writers of books like The Secret will tell you that it is okay to be selfish because the universe has unlimited supply. These people are clearly exploiting human hope for their own benefit financially. If the universe had unlimited supply, our success in North American and Europe would not be causing the deprivation, starvation and health problems suffered by so many in the third world.

Furthermore our success, as defined by the writers of these types of books, internalize desire to be all about the individual instead of larger issues that affect us all such as global warming. All of the material success in the world does not matter if there is no world to live on in the first place!

The most successful people in the world are ones that realize that at least part of a measure of their success is due to compassion, gratitude and selflessness. Good examples of these philanthropic type of individuals in action are Oprah Winfrey, Richard Branson and Angelina Jolie. These celebrities truly don’t have a minute to waste meditating on attracting to success as they are too busy trying to manifest it for others. That is the REAL secret.

My Intuition is my Weapon

My Intuition is my Weapon

You heard about it everywhere: the prince in the fairy tales mentions it, the characters in your favorite book, the Greek legends bring it up etc. All these situations make you wonder whether intuition is something writers have invented. Could it exist beyond the borders of human imagination? Or, in other words, does intuition exist in real life?

Strangely or not, intuition is a characteristic associated mainly with women. That happens probably because women are considered to be more sensitive and open minded. Modern studies, regarding the typology of the personalities, reveal that about a quarter of all women know how and frequently use this mental capacity called intuition.

If you still have doubts whether intuition truly exists in real life, think about your own experience. Remember how, all of a sudden a great idea occurred to you in the most unexpected moment, or you discovered, spontaneously, the answer to a question that had been bothered you for quite a while. It also happened to you to run into somebody you know and to guess exactly what the person was about to say; or, also remember that sometimes you think about someone and after a few minutes, that person rings you up. All these examples, which do not seem to follow any logical path, can be explained by using the term intuition.

However, we cannot always fallow what our visions or intuitions tell us, because we can’t always afford to be spontaneous and take the risk. Who hasn’t been wrong when following his or her intuition? Sometimes, it turns out exactly the opposite from what we expected it to happen and we discover that in fact, out intuition, was nothing but a fear, a thought that turned out not to be real. We feel very embarrassed at the moment and we don’t dare to trust our instincts anymore, which is precisely something that we should not do. Despite the occasions when you were wrong, you should never totally ignore your intuition, especially if you have a strong feeling about something or somebody.

But, what is intuition more exactly? How would specialists describe it? By using our intuition we can say that we let, in a way or another, our mind or soul transmit to the eye those things that cannot be correctly distinguished. Instinct or intuition requires, in the first place, an open mind, capable to receive and transform information. It is also true that intuition helps us perceive meanings beyond logic, read between the lines etc.

However, it is important to determine whether intuition has any effects on our everyday lives? Persons who use intuition frequently tend to analyze the possibilities and the effects certain actions might have, and they end up with a multitude of options, out of which they chose the most favorable one.

There are two types of intuition: the one based on reason, typical for the persons who try to dominate the capacity of understanding, controlling and predicting the reality; and the intuition based on affection, representative for the persons recognized by the others as energy sources, as they influence in a positive manner all the people around them.

Let’s not forget that intuition is, indeed, a real and positive characteristic, but nevertheless it must be combined with judgment and reason.

Can we decide our own destiny?

CHANGING THE STARS
Can we decide our own destiny?

Free will versus predetermination. This conflict has always been the fuel of many great philosophies, literary works and innovative arguments throughout the ages. It is a conflict the resolution of which would ultimately define the essence of our existence?

Do I have a choice? Or is everything preordained? Can I change the future? Or is my life preset to follow a definitive pattern? Am I free? Or am I chained to a series of events that have been planned even before my birth?

A lot of people, who have been remarkably good at doing something during their lives, in various fields like business, sports, science etc, confess that fate seemed to be against them at the beginning and even throughout their career. Most of them lived completely different lives before being successful and they are proud to remember those times. It was indeed hard, most of them say, but they wanted to get to the top badly; nothing could have held them back from getting where they wanted. They also admit that they never dared to dream they would be so famous or successful in the future.

All these facts make us wonder, whether an apparently pre-established destiny can be modified or completely changed, if we manage to prove we really want something and we are determined to go all the way to get it, no matter what. And if we indeed can change fate, to whom should we demonstrate what we’re capable of? Could there be a way to modify the data, which composes the famous book of life, just as easy as correcting something on a computer? And if that is true, how do we know that there wasn’t a mistake in the first place, and our determination does not do more than correct it?

Obviously, all that was presented before represents suppositions. Nevertheless, since there are different people who testify that their lives changed, this increases our confidence that we can do it too. If we can’t control our destiny, we can, at least, contribute to what’s happening to us during our existence.

Maybe, although we were supposed to have a less fortunate destiny, if we treat others the right way, if we are always honest and always mind the truth, somehow bad fate will go around us, showing us that we can make our own destiny.

On the other hand, we cannot help wondering what happens to a person who starts off with a wonderful destiny, but during his or her life commits a series of unpardonable mistakes. Will that destiny change?

Could it be true that we actually get the destiny we deserve? Persons who suffer tremendously for having lost somebody dear to them or persons born with a disease or a handicap, will answer no! There are a lot of innocent people in pain, so the theory that we get what we deserve is not always accurate. But what if we have to pay for the errors others committed? Would that make us think deeper before carrying out something we are not really proud of, fearing that some innocent human being will pay, in the future, for our present actions?

There was this movie a few years back. The title was Knight’s Tale, and the plot had a young Heathe Ledger, a peasant’s child wanting to be a knight, asking his father if he could change the stars and build his own destiny. The father said yes.

In the end, he journeyed the land with his regal horse, as a beknighted man in service of the kind.

He was able to change his destiny, he was able to defy the will of the stars, and he was able to teach us a valuable lesson in the process.

Finding your Inner Voice

Sunday, May 15th, 2005

It is that indescribable still small voice within you that points you in the right direction. It guides us lovingly in life and gives us the strength to continue when times are rough, but what exactly is it and how can we get more in touch with this well of power.

The inner voice is an indefinable element that exists in everyone of us, helping us sense good and bad, differentiate right from wrong and make decisions. This voice is a mixture of your personality and past experiences, being different from one person to another. You will never hear your inner voice speaking to you, but its messages are reflected in your behavior and attitude. If you wish, you may call your inner voice your soul, and harnessing its power should be something you must be aware of.

Many people experience difficulties when communicating with their inner self. They tend to judge and evaluate things in a manner that is unproductive, depriving themselves of opportunities just waiting to be taken. If this is your case, you should start by adopting a small but radical change: eliminate the word “can’t” from your vocabulary. Of course, this is more of a symbol than an actual tool to “cure” your negative views, but it can become very effective. Try to stop for a moment whenever you hear yourself saying “I can’t do that” and think about it. What made you use this expression? Why didn’t you say “Yes, I can do it!”? What is the underlying reason for your denial?

Maybe you won’t find answers to these questions right away, but this exercise will teach you to adopt a positive attitude towards everything about you. Most of us have a rather conservative inner voice. We unconsciously try to avoid experiencing new things because we feel insecure about them. We like our old patterns and habits and are weary about changing them. This is a feeling that tends to get more pronounced as you get older, but this doesn’t mean that we have to accept it as it is.

Let’s say your life long dream is to drive a Ferrari. You try to search back, in our past experiences, and you will not find any solutions for achieving this ideal. The inner voice then draws the final conclusion: “it can’t be done!”. You will have a hard time putting your conscious mind against your inner voice, but in order to achieve the goal you must escape the ropes that tie you to the past and search for new alternatives. Your inner voice is probably against this: “you’re doing fine as you are now, why would you want to risk changing things?” it might say.

Even though it is a difficult endeavor, you should keep in mind that it is, after all, your inner voice. Thus, you do have control over it and you can make it work for you in reaching your goals. Through perseverance and strong will you can turn all of your negative aspects concerning yourself into positive ones. Stop running away from your fears – they will never stop haunting you! Prepare to face them, one by one. Tell yourself, before a difficult challenge that is waiting for you, that you will come out as a winner. A positive attitude and good morale may weigh much more in the balance than countless hours of physical or technical preparation.
